What is the 3G shutdown and will I be impacted?

This year, all major nationwide wireless providers are shutting down their 3G networks to open up valuable space for the faster 4G and 5G networks. Any phones that run exclusively on 3G networks will no longer be able to make or receive calls, or use other data services, including emergency services.

If you’re a Mint Mobile subscriber, July 1 is when T-Mobile’s older 3G network will be shutdown. This network upgrade will ensure our customers have the best quality and coverage possible. Impacted Mint Mobile subscribers will be notified.

You may be impacted if:

  • You use a 3G exclusive device (one that does not leverage 4G LTE or 5G) and is non-VoLTE supported
  • There are also a few 4G devices that could potentially be affected if they don’t allow you to enable voice over long-term evolution (VoLTE). If you aren’t capable of enabling VoLTE on your phone, you’ll want to switch to a 4G-compatible phone that is VoLTE-capable.

If you need a 4G LTE or 5G capable phone, visit our Mint Mobile phones page.

Stay tuned for further updates regarding the 3G shutdown.
