How do I activate a SIM card and bring my current number to Mint Mobile?
Before you can start using all that unlimited talk & text, you’ve gotta activate your Mint Mobile SIM card. Luckily, activating a SIM card just takes a few minutes in the Mint Mobile app or via the website. And bringing your phone number along just takes an extra click or two. If you are activating by eSIM, please see How to activate a Mint Mobile plan with eSIM.
Before we begin, you’ll want to make sure your account with your current phone carrier is still active. We can’t bring your number over to Mint Mobile if you already canceled it. Now, let’s get you activated.
Activating a SIM card in the Mint Mobile App
Activating a SIM card in the Mint Mobile app is almost too easy. Download the Mint Mobile app to your phone, open the app and select “Activate your SIM card”. The app will automatically verify your phone’s compatibility, then you just have to follow a few more steps:
- Enter the 11-digit ACT code on the back of your SIM card and tap “Continue”
- Make sure you have your account number, password/PIN code and billing address from your previous carrier handy and choose the option to keep your current number now (if you activate a new number now, you won’t be able to transfer your number later)
- Not sure how to get this information for your current account? Check out our A-Z list of where to find it based on each carrier
- Enter your zip code, select the carrier you’re transferring your number from, and enter your account number and password/PIN
- Create a password to finish setting up your account on the Mint Mobile app
- Using the SIM ejector tool, remove the SIM card tray from your phone and insert your newly activated Mint Mobile SIM card
6. If you don’t get a signal right away, just restart your phone and you should get connected in no time
