SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module, and it’s a removable card inside your cell phone that stores data unique to its user. Basically, it tells your wireless provider who you are, and it’s the thing that allows you to connect to their network. Without it, you can’t access your data or make phone calls, you’d just be rolling with WiFi.
Since the SIM card holds your identifying info, you can easily move it from phone to phone to access the same network and the same phone number. But we won’t tell if you still hit people with a, “new phone who dis?”
SIM cards come in three different sizes: Standard (Mini), Micro, Nano. To make life easy, some awesome carriers (ahem, like us) provide a 3-in-1 SIM card, which means we give you a triple cut SIM and you pop out the size that fits your device.
A few notes on sizes:
Transferring your phone number to Mint is easy. You’ll just need a few details from your current (overpriced) carrier—your account number, pass/pin code, and billing zip code—that you’ll enter during activation to complete the port/transfer.
Or, if you want to start Mint-y fresh, we can assign you a new phone number. The choice is yours!
Have a phone you love? Keep it! With our BYOP program, you can bring that unlocked device along for the fun (and the savings).
Check in these settings:
OR, Find a sticker (often silver) on your phone or in the box it came in
Before you go all in, make sure your phone is unlocked so you can jump on the Mint wagon without any issues. FYI: your phone is probably unlocked if you are coming from a prepaid plan or a Pay-As-You-Go plan.
If your phone is locked, you’ll need to have it unlocked by your old carrier before you can switch. Each carrier requires a phone call or a visit to its webpage or store to start the unlocking process. Ask the customer service representative to “network unlock” the phone for you. If you are financing a phone through your old carrier, you may need to pay the remaining balance to unlock your phone.
Holy Mackerel! So you're telling me that I can have unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 12GB of LTE data per month, and unlimited 2G data for $300 per year ($25/month)?! Wow That's a pretty good deal.
It's not only worth if for the price it's actually really good service.
The more months you buy (12) the less you pay. After enrollment the monthly plan is a SHOCKER!?! Service works very well in covered areas.
Echoing other reviewers, our experience with Mint Mobile has been excellent. We switched from Republic Wireless during Mint Mobile's promo, and we have had no issues (so about 3 months of use as of now)!

Depends on your device’s make and model. All plans come with a 3-in-1 SIM card that includes mini, micro and nano sizes to fit your phone. Just punch the size that will fit your phone and use the handy sim ejector tool that we gave you to pop out the sim tray.
Not sure where your SIM card is located? Check your phone manual or just ask Google for the location of the SIM card in your phone and which size you’ll need.
If you need help inserting the SIM, the Mint Fox will talk you through it step-by-step in this instructional video.
