HOW WE 5G

(For starters, it’s free)

With all the 5G talk going on out there, it can get pretty confusing. So, here’s a nice, simple overview of what 5G means for you on Mint Mobile.

  • IT'S FREE

We don’t charge you extra for 5G.
  • More reliability

Indoors. Outdoors. Four doors? No prob, the signal stays strong.
  • Greater COVERAGE

Service that goes where you go.
Capable device required. Better coverage when compared to other leading 5G networks nationwide (June 2020). Coverage not available in all areas. See details.

5G stands for 5th Generation Wireless Network

The Mint 5G difference

  • On the largest nationwide 5G network.
  • Network covers 200 million people in 6000+ cities.
  • No 5G signal goes farther (others can be blocked by things like leaves).

What is 5G?

Okay, 5G stands for 5th generation wireless technology. As in the generation after 4G and 4G LTE. It offers greater bandwidth so it can handle many more connected devices, which translates into less spotty service. Eventually, 5G will be consistently 10X faster than 4G…but honestly, you don’t really need THAT MUCH speed for an enhanced wireless experience. Which is why the real benefit of 5G is actually better connectivity, coverage and reliability. 5G won’t replace 4G any time soon. In fact, they’ll coexist and work together, much like bacon & eggs or superheroes & sidekicks.

There’s a rumor going around that data gets consumed faster with a 5G phone, but let us hit you with the facts. 5G simply increases the download speed. If a file requires 2MB of data to download on 4G LTE, it will use the same 2MB of data to download it on 5G. It just may download faster, which is nice.

Not all 5G is the same

5G networks operate on up to three frequency bands, low, medium, and high.

  • Low Band (600 MHz) – Signal travels the farthest (even through walls and buildings), reaches the most people inside and out, and is 20% faster than 4G. This is the band Mint Mobile will utilize the most because it’s the one that benefits you the most.
  • Medium Band (2.5GHz) – Signal is more mid-range and produces 2x-4x faster speed than 4G.
  • High Band (Millimeter wave) – This is the “fastest signal,” but it can easily be blocked by things like a leaf or a piece of paper or rain…meaning it’s the least reliable and isn’t really as fast as you are led to believe. AT&T and Verizon are starting here, LMFAO.

Do I have to pay extra for 5G?

With Mint, no. Our 5G comes included in your plan. For example, if your plan allows 5GB of 4G LTE of data per month, you’ll have 5GB of data to use at the fastest speed possible at the time, whether it’s 4G LTE or 5G.

If you’re not on Mint, watch out. Some carriers are going to charge you extra, or make it more expensive to access their 5G network.
