Want to keep your current phone?
Let's make sure it'll work on our network
You need a compatible device to take advantage of 5G. We got you.
Mint Mobile offers premium wireless service on the T-Mobile 5G Network. If you’re looking for the best cell phone coverage in your area or just want to see if there’s 5G near you, you’re on the right page. Drop a pin or enter an address in our network map above to verify coverage in your area and see how we can keep you connected where you live, work and hang.
We offer reliable service with 5G • 4G LTE speeds nationwide. If your area isn’t currently covered by the rapidly expanding 5G network, you’ll still receive fast, reliable service on the 4G LTE network, which currently covers 99% of Americans.
You can even bring your own phone and current phone number to Mint Mobile, making the switch even easier. And when you’re ready to upgrade, we have deals on the latest and greatest 5G phones for you to choose from as well.
There are a few easy ways to check if Mint Mobile is the perfect fit for you…
1. Check the coverage map to verify service in your area. Please be aware that outside factors like terrain, building structures, weather, and other conditions may also interfere with the actual service available.
2. If you are bringing your own phone (BYOP), make sure it is compatible with Mint Mobile.
3. You want to pay for the data you use and save money on your current monthly phone plan.
4. You want customer service there for you when you need it.
5. You want to be a part of the best community in wireless.
Check our coverage map to verify service in your area. The icons in green will show the expected coverage in that location (outdoors, indoor residential, etc.) for certain phones. Enter multiple addresses/ZIP codes to check all the areas where you live, work and play.
Please be aware that outside factors like terrain, building structures, weather and other conditions may also interfere with the actual service available.
Any doubts, then you can test us out with our See for Yourself Kit, available exclusively through the Mint Mobile app. You’ll get a 7-day trial to test where you live, work and play. When you love us then you can purchase a full plan directly from the app.
Check our 5G coverage map to see if 5G is available in your area. Just know that outside factors like terrain, buildings, weather and other conditions may also interfere with the actual service available. So if you live in a bunker 10 feet underground in a 5G service area…you may not get that 5G service.
Mint Mobile is on the T-Mobile network, the nation’s largest 5G network.
5G stands for “fifth-generation wireless network technology,” or essentially the next step after 4G LTE. It delivers enhanced reliability, faster speeds, lower latency and stronger connectivity while straight-up transforming the way we live, work and play. 5G-capable phones can use both 5G and 4G LTE technology, depending on your coverage area.
This year, all major nationwide wireless providers are shutting down their 3G networks to open up valuable space for the faster 4G and 5G networks. Any phones that run exclusively on 3G networks will no longer be able to make or receive calls, or use other data services, including emergency services.
If you’re a Mint Mobile subscriber, July 1 is when T-Mobile’s older 3G network will be shutdown. This network upgrade will ensure our customers have the best quality and coverage possible. Impacted Mint Mobile subscribers will be notified.
You may be impacted if:
If you need a 4G LTE or 5G capable phone, visit our Mint Mobile phones page.
Stay tuned for further updates regarding the 3G shutdown.
Mint is upgrading our network to ensure our customers have the best experience possible by providing Better Call Quality, Better Coverage, and Faster Speeds.
5G is available to anyone with a Mint Mobile plan. However, you do need to be in a 5G coverage area (check the 5G coverage map above) and have a 5G-capable phone to access the network. And no, there’s no extra charge for 5G here. That would just be rude.
If your phone doesn’t support 4G LTE, VoLTE or 5G, unfortunately your phone is not compatible with our network. The good news is we have many phones available at https://phones.mintmobile.com/phones.html, all of which are fully compatible with the network. If you have any questions, our Care Team is available at (800) 683 7392.
While most phones will work perfectly, 3G phones along with some older 4G phones that do not support VoLTE will have issues. While you may love your current phone, newer devices can take advantage of everything our network has to offer. Visit your local retailer or https://phones.mintmobile.com/phones.html where you’ll find a selection of great iPhones and Androids, all of which are network certified. Once you have your new phone, getting set up is as easy as switching a SIM card in most cases.

If your device is compatible and you’ve had no recent issues you should be all set. If you have been having issues with calls or texts, it might be an idea to take a few more steps:
1. Check to see if there are any software updates for your phone that have not been installed.
2. Ensure that VoLTE is turned on. While the naming conventions may vary, the easiest way to see if VoLTE is enabled on your phone is to check within the device’s settings: Click on the Settings icon -> click ????-> type “volte” -> click VoLTE Calls Menu -> switch the VoLTE Call Toggle to On. If after typing “VoLTE” no menu option appears, the device either does not support VoLTE or VoLTE is defaulted to On which is likely if the phone is fairly new.
3. Confirm the APN settings for the device. https://www.mintmobile.com/setup/android/
No, there is no need to change your plan. As long as your phone is compatible, you’ll be able to enjoy the improved experience regardless of your plan.
You should ensure the phone you’re buying includes 4G LTE with VoLTE or 5G. A device with bands 2, 4, 12, and 71 is best.
We are constantly improving our network, so our network is getting better all the time. Our next upgrade will be 7/1/22.
If you have domestic roaming turned on and go outside of your network area, your phone automatically switches to a network partner if one is available. All plans at Mint include domestic roaming for free.
