How do I use my Mint Mobile phone in Canada?
Visiting Canada is about to get a lot easier with Mint Mobile, thanks to Free Canada Roaming. Starting on July 1, 2024, all new Mint subscribers will get to enjoy unlimited talk & text and 3GB of high-speed data each month to use north of the border. Existing Mint subscribers will have their Free Canada Roaming kick in when their plan data refreshes for the month.
Free Canada Roaming is included in all Mint Mobile plans at no additional cost (hence us using the word “Free” so much). Also, as long as you have Data Roaming enabled in your phone settings, it works automatically as soon as you enter Canada, so you don’t need to do anything special to activate it ahead of your trip. Free Canada Roaming includes unlimited talk & text, just like you get in the States, and 3GB of high-speed data that only works in Canada — meaning it isn’t pulling from your usual monthly data allotment. When your regular plan data refreshes each month, your 3GB of Canada Roaming data will refresh, too.

What happens if I run out of Canada Roaming data?
If you find yourself using all 3GB of your Canada Roaming data for the month, you’ll still be connected at 128 kbps. If you need more high-speed data to use during your time in Canada, you can follow the steps above to purchase a data add-on via the Mint Mobile app or in your account online. Just keep in mind that data add-ons do not rollover to the following month, and Canada data add-ons can only be used while roaming in Canada.
I’m on a Mint Family plan. How do I buy a Canada Roaming data add-on?
Mint Family members can follow the steps above to purchase their own Canada Roaming data add-on OR you can request one from the Primary Account Holder of your Mint Family just as you would any other add-ons.
Do I need to turn it on?
You do need to enable Data Roaming in your phone for Free Canada Roaming to work. Once Data Roaming has been enabled, Free Canada Roaming will kick in automatically once you cross the border into the Great White North.
Do I need to turn it off?
Nope. Free Canada Roaming kicks in automatically when you enter Canada (as long as Data Roaming is enabled in your phone), and your phone will switch back to your regular data plan when you return to the US. No need to turn it off.
How does it work with a Minternational Pass?
Minternational Passes will NOT work in Canada, because of Free Canada Roaming. You will still be able to purchase and activate Minternational Passes for use in other countries while traveling in Canada, but you won’t need them while in Canada thanks to the 3GB of high-speed data and unlimited talk & text included in your plan.
What should I do if my service isn’t working?
If your service isn’t working, try toggling your phone’s airplane mode on and off, or simply restart your phone.
