Where should I place my Home MINTernet gateway for the best signal?

Where you place the 5G gateway device for your Home MINTernet service is important for two reasons: you want the device to receive a strong network signal, and you want it to emit a strong Wi-Fi signal to your other devices.

Remember that you don’t have to see full signal bars on your 5G Gateway device to get the best experience. If you’re experiencing hiccups, try testing different places around the house with these tips in mind. 

Before you start, if you have existing home internet service, make sure it is disconnected to prevent any signal interference. Here are some tips on finding the optimal spot to place your gateway device:

• Near a window (but out of direct sunlight)
  • The gateway receives internet via wireless 5G signals, which have an easier time reaching it through a window
• Close to a power outlet
  • It needs to stay plugged in and we don’t want extension cords stretched all across the room
• A higher floor is also recommended
  • Of course this won’t be possible in a single-story home, but if you have an upstairs, a spot up there would be ideal
• A central location is recommended
  • Choose a spot like your living room or home office to help distribute signal evenly throughout your home
• Avoid placing it by appliances (refrigerators, microwaves, etc) or underneath/behind any furniture
  • You may think it looks cleaner under the couch or behind the TV, but these things can block signal to and from the device, so choose a spot with a clear, unobstructed path
• Avoid placing it by anything that also uses a wireless signal (bluetooth speakers, baby monitors, etc)
  • The radio frequencies used by these devices can interfere with your gateway’s Wi-Fi signal
