How to block spam calls and texts with iPhone

If you’ve received a spam call or text message from a specific number, it’s easy to block that number from never spamming you again. You can block the number from your Phone app if it was a call, or from your Message app if it was a text, and that will block all calls AND text messages from coming from that number.

How to block iPhone spam calls

1. Go into your Phone app
2. Tap “Recents”
3. Click on the lowercase “i” next to the number you want to block
4. Scroll down to “Block this Caller” and tap it

How to block spam texts on iPhone

1. Go into your Message app
2. Open the message from the number you want to block
3. Click on the contact number at the top
4. Click the lowercase “i” icon (it should be the fourth one over)
5. Scroll down to “Block Caller” and tap it

How to stop spam calls and spam texts on iPhone

Blocking each spam call or text that comes through is one thing, but there are also important steps you can take to stop more spam calls in the future. 

• Add your phone number to the Do No Call Registry
  • If you’re receiving spam calls non-stop, you can add your phone number to the Do Not Call Registry (www.donotcall.com) or ask the caller to take you off their list. However, some scammers have been known to ignore this very simple request.
    
• Download a third-party call blocking app
  • There are applications that can automatically identify incoming spam calls and block them before your iPhone even rings. 

• Don’t respond to spam text messages
  • Make it a personal rule to never respond to spam text messages. This lets the person messaging you know that your number is active and you’re reading their messages, which is all the more reason to keep spamming you. It’s best not to give scammers any information or attention at all.
    
• Avoid links in a spam text message
  • Clicking on a link or attachment in a spam text message could allow scammers to install malware on your phone.
